Factions or Nightfall?
So I don't have Factions or Nightfall although I have been playing 4 years. I think I am going to pick up one of the two so me and my girlfriend could play together.
Skills/runs/farming aside what do you think is the better out of the two. I am looking for the one best for adventuring/questing/etc. Any of your personal opinions would be greatly appreciated thanks. |

Factions. Better areas, less pop-culture references, overall a better game.

Theme-wise, Factions is "asian" with 3 kind of scenery: town/cities/palaces (strange architecture), dark forest, jade see. Nightfall is more "african" with a lot of sand, awesomely beautiful palaces and the tormented area at the end.
Game-wise, Factions brings you 3 "light" PvP areas, while Nightfall gives you heroes (customisable henchmen). |

Nightfall is a better pve experience buy far plus you get heroes, more quests, and more missions. Factions opens up AB,JQ,FA and alliance titles and skills. I consider it a must have but for what you want go with Nightfall.

Im more into PvE and in my opinion Nightfall is the best campaign in the game, moderate leveling curve, stuning areas (i love deserts), and a the torment area at the end.
The story is ok and it make you feal that your realy part o the plot. I have 10 toons 8 of them are from nightall. |

Definitely Nightfall for the heroes. You don't get as much benefit from Factions than that.

If you are planning on getting all of them, but one at a time, go in order. Get Factions, then Nightfall, to play the plot in order and avoid spoilers.
About questing, Factions has a lot of quests in 'few space', so you can make a lot of quests at the same time. There are areas in which you can make more than 4 quests at the same time, and there are 10 repeatable quests. Nightfall is not so crowded, but you can make a lot of quests at the same time. This time around 3 quests at the same time can be made in some places. There are some fun and interesting quests too. And the new Master difficulty quests. That are quest hard enough for some people to fail to complete them. Something not seen before in GW. About missions, most Factions missions are bout SPEED. Go, go, go! The faster you kil the enemy, the better. There are a couple of them that are the opposite, and instead of speed, you'll need good defensive tactics to protect creatures. Nightfall missions are a mix of all seen before. Some require speed. Some require patience. Some good defensive tactics to protect a place or a creature. Many of the most interesting Missions I've seen in GW are in Nightfall. So, if you really want something new in PvE, go for Nightfall. And if you are planning to buy them all anyways, but first Factions, or even better: Both. |

Nightfall has better skills, and heroes. But, I'd really try looking around and finding a deal on both, they're fun.

I prefer NF over Factions PvE-wise but nothing beats FA/JQ in Factions. It's fun to go blow sometime in JQ or FA. So really as pointed out before it depends on what you want to do, PvP or PvE. If you want to play with your gf on GW then I'd assume PvE, therefore NF would be the way to go.

I don't know much about Factions, I'm thinking about buying it too because it's very cheap and no one really knows about when GW2 is going to be released. If I know anything different between the two expansions its that Nightfall is shorter and easier to rank up in PvE. Factions is harder once you get to the places but there is a lot of experience involved in the large missions or quests (16 000 - 20 000 exp).

Nightfall is the best for PvE but the best overall IMO. Factions I didn't like a lot while playing it till I finished, Nightfall I liked more as I played. Pros and cons of each, I hope this helps lol.
Nightfall: + MANY heros available to unlock and very quickly. The fact that they can use anything unlocked on your account is amazing. Also remember that they go for 3k faction a pop so the easy unlocking in PvE is a real deal. + Inscribable weapons found anywhere and early. + Shorter than Prophecies, longer than factions, best length IMO. + I really enjoyed a ton of the quests more than Prophecies and Factions. + Places you travel were the most interesting and beautiful out of the main 3 IMO. + PvE skills EARLY in the game at your disposal, and are quite powerful. - Heros are a curse and blessing. They killed pugging a lot. Sure you can find other people to play with, but not always. - Like 0 skill quests. Besides the basic skills you can unlock, forget it. Get your gold ready. - End of game enemies is like level 28 normal mode and tons of professions take place in fights. You can be a Lightbringer, but it's seems harder. - Plot gets a bit stupid near the end, but is good overall. I started in it though and some of the stuff you won't get if you didn't play factions before (can't say any more!). - Never played Hero's Ascent and don't see any reason to, but I would guess it's prone to nasty build wars. - While I like the scenery in Nightfall a lot, it is a lot less flashy than any of the games. It won't be beautiful and areas may not have clear themes like the Shiverpeakers or Crystal Desert from Prophecies, and it won't reach the fantasy aspect of Echovald Forest/Jade Sea nor the creative housing from Factions. There are some exceptions, but I feel like Nightfall is the most rural. Factions + Fort Aspenwood: I am NOT a PvP kind of person at all but am addicted to FA. I think it's the best thing ever. I know some will say AB or JQ are better, but that's just my opinion. I really suggest getting Factions for FA. In general though if you like PvP go with Factions. + The plot was not for me, but it was ok. It got better as it went on. - I hate Assassins lol. They might be fun for others to play but they are a bitch when you're going against them. - Confusing maps and places. I got lost a LOT in Factions, it was definitely annoying at times to navigate my way around. Some of the places are very maze like, compared to Nightfall which was a cakewalk when just following the arrow. +/- No heros, but this means you might get PUGs more in it. I know I did. +/- Short game. At first I thought this was a negative only, but I realize it can go either way. Since the game is so short, get you can unlock hard mode and start vanquishing MUCH faster. Also, it's good to feel like "yes, that's done." I know I must sound like I favor Nightfall a TON, but I really like them both. Fations for FA and shortness, Nightfall for overall package. |

if you are into pvp more then go with factions.
If you are the type of player that prefers pve then go nightfall. |

I like the Factions campaign the best because it's short and sweet and to the point.
However, NF is a must-have for the heroes. The NF campaign is actually not bad, if you bring a non-NF char over to play through it. The 'noob' part of the campaign, for NF-created chars, is even more boring than Proph, imo, so unless you really want a para or a derv it's more fun to bring over a Proph or Factions char - that way you get to skip over the boring part. |

Well, I love both games dearly, but I'd say that Nightfall is my game of choice for playing with a friend. Exploring is more fun when done together, and heroes see to it that you don't need a PUG or henchies. Also, it's got better story, missions (a very good mix, as has been noted, though - be warned! it forks, so you'd have to decide which path you're going to take, and there is one solo mission), and scenery. Unlike other people, I found both of them enjoyable for PvE, but I would overall recommend Nightfall.
...Scratch that. Just checked Amazon, and you can get Factions for about $5 and Nightfall for 15 (and EotN for 10, if you're interested), plus shipping... so you could get both games for less than thirty bucks. I'd just buy both of them. |
